The my roots piece is made with fine black pens on white mixed-media paper. It is custom framed in a rough wood black frame with museum glass.
 
about this piece:
This piece is the product of several pencil sketches taken while sitting under gigantic mother trees in Salida and Alamosa, CO. Over the years, I have spent countless hours under numerous populus angustifolia (narrow leaf cottonwood) and populus deltoides (flat leaf cottonwood) trees along the Arkansas, Rio Grande, South Platte, Poudre and Gunnison rivers.
 
I visit these trees to help me...
    ...release stress and unwanted energy
    ...listen to flowing water, wind, and leaves
    ...witness complex emotions like anger and grief
    ...rest with roots, rabbits, and birds
    ...return to my breath and body
    ...invite creativity and belonging

about the artist: 
I have been drawing my whole life. Artmaking has always helped me process a hurting and beautiful world. I studied fine art and graphic design at Palomar College (AA in Liberal Arts with emphasis on Fine Art and Graphic Design) and Metro State University (BA in Art, Design & Entrepreneurship). Artistic expression is central to all aspects of my work.
 
My multi-dimensional "Walking Artist" process is primarily informed by the people I walk with, the landscapes moving around me, and an always mysterious inner journey. Unhurried movement significantly increases my capacity to honor, listen, and nurture my imagination. It also helps me witness, invite, and honor the hard, the painful, the good, the awe-inspiring, the basic, and the profound. All of this finds its way into my drawing, writing, event hosting, advocacy work, and more.
