About the event
Join us for a meaningful walking/movement experience in and around Golden, CO. This will be an unhurried 11-12 mile inner and outer journey walking experience moving through residential streets, commercial roadways, greenways, creek paths, and South Table Mountain trails. We will take several breaks and I will offer various invitations (readings, poems, practices) from my first book, WALK - Slow Down, Wake Up & Connect at 1-3 Miles Per Hour. We will do a loop from the Barnes & Noble parking lot in the Denver West area. We will finish at Barnes & Noble for a book signing happening at 3:00 pm. Every participant is encouraged (not required) to purchase a book from Barnes & Noble for themselves or as a gift!
Facilitator: Jonathon Stalls (he, his) Jonathon Stalls spent 242 days walking across the United States in 2010 and has continued to move alongside thousands of people for thousands of miles. His creative work currently moves in the realms of pen and ink drawing, writing and poetry, storytelling with the Pedestrian Dignity project, economic and racial justice organizing, meditative practices, and creating/scouting long-distance walking routes. He identifies as gay/queer and is supported by an incredible patron community.Â
Meeting Location, Start Time & Lunch: We will meet at 9 am in front of the Barnes & Noble entrance. The store opens at 9 am and everyone will be able to go in and use restroom if needed. We will gathering outside the main entrance at 5-10 minutes after 9 and begin introductions. We will be taking a 30-minute or so lunch break in downtown Golden before hiking up South Table Mountain. Please plan to bring your own lunch or have money with you for purchasing something in town. We should return to Barnes & Noble between 2:30-3:00 pm.Â
Ability, Pace & Terrain: This experience is largely inaccessible to most mobility devices primarily because of distance and climp up and over South Table Mountain. We will be moving at a conversational pace. When we are moving, we are moving. That said, we are in no rush and will be taking plenty of breaks.
Flexibility & Community: Please prepare your heart, body, and mind for utmost flexibility as we move with a wide variety of backgrounds, abilities, and surprises along the way. We may have to stop and re-route as needed. We will naturally have different paces and we honor individual movement/needs.
WALK Book Signing at Barnes & Noble: Jonathon will be reading from his newly released book, WALK - Slow Down, Wake Up & Connect at 1-3 Miles Per Hour throughout the event. If you already have a copy of the book or have listened to the audiobook, you are encouraged to pick-up a copy after the walk as a gift. This is optional of course. There will be a formal book signing at Barnes & Noble at 3:00 pm MT after our event, so please share this with your peers.
